Jewish Vacation, Kosher Cruise

Here’s a List of Your Pre-Cruise Reminders

Are you off to your annual family vacation and going on another one of those kosher cruises? Before heading out for any trip, everyone has to take care of some things.

The planning phase may get you going, but before the trip, especially when the thought of a relaxing time sets in, you may be tempted to procrastinate. To help you get through the temptation of procrastinating, here’s a list of reminders to get you started.

Danube River Cruise

One Week Before The Cruise

You read that correctly. Travel preparations may begin as far back as one week, but if you can knock out these things just two days before you go on your riverboat cruise, you’re welcome to do so as well.

As you prepare to travel, tell your most trusted relatives or neighbors about your plans to be away for some time. You can also ask them to look after your home if it’s not too much to ask. If it is, however, make arrangements to do the following:

  • Notify your newspaper provider about your absence
  • Ask the courier service providers to hold off any deliveries to your house for the time being
  • Check your pet in a kennel or get a pet sitter to look after your pets
  • Arrange the transportation that will take you to the port for embarkation day

If you need to, buy new items that you’ll need for the trip like toiletries and other important travel gear. If you intend to spend the entire cruise crossing off some items in your reading list (although you should check out the exciting excursions), prepare the material you’ll be consuming for the week ahead.

24 Hours Before Go Time

As your excitement for the trip comes to a boil, make sure you don’t forget to make solid preparations a day before you go.

For starters, prepare your home for your time away. Throw out any perishables that may go bad while you’re out. A lot of people install smart alarm systems to protect their house from intruders.

Those systems are available online and are usually very reliable thanks to the development of security technology. Don’t forget to knock out this checklist as well:

  • Check out the weather you’ll be expecting
  • Charge your electronic devices
  • Tell your bank about your itinerary
  • Test all the locks on your doors and windows
  • Clear the garbage disposal
  • Make sure there are no dirty dishes
  • Give house plants a good watering
  • Set your thermostat to the appropriate away temperature
  • Double check your clothes and luggage
  • Double check your IDs, passports and other important travel documents

Another very important thing you should do before you travel is to change your bedsheets before you go. Traveling back home can get tiring, and there’s no sweeter feeling than coming home to clean sheets when you get tired from the flight home. Your Jewish vacation becomes much more memorable when you don’t have to come home to some worries.
